Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Why do you need your wisdom teeth removed?

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to appear in the adult dentition. When you have enough space in the mouth and the gum tissue is healthy, you can safely keep your wisdom teeth. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. Therefore, wisdom tooth extraction is a must to prevent improper eruption, possible infection, gum disease, and crowding of the anterior teeth.

With comprehensive oral evaluation and X-rays of the jaws, Dr. Rossius is able to evaluate the position of your wisdom teeth and give a diagnosis whether these teeth present current pathology or would cause future problems. Scientific research showed that early detection and treatment yield the best outcome for a patient.

At Wellness Dental Center all wisdom tooth surgeries are performed under appropriate anesthesia to ensure  maximum patient comfort.  In majority of cases, third molars are extracted under local anesthesia, “laughing gas” (nitrous oxide/ oxygen analgesia) or conscious intravenous sedation.  These options, including surgical risks and benefits, will be discussed with you before the procedure is performed.

Once the teeth are removed, the gums are closed with sutures. Biting down on the gauze placed will help control bleeding if any. Upon discharge from Wellness Dental Center, patients are provided with post-op instructions, antibiotics and pain medications and a follow-up appointment in 1 or 2 weeks if necessary.

Our doctors at Wellness Dental Center have the training, license and experience to provide wisdom tooth removal under various types of anesthesia for patients to select the best alternative.
